CONTAINERS OF DESIRE
to my mother and son
We use photographic cameras as containers of images of our dreams, experiences and desires. We project inside it that which we would like to possess forever and thus converted into a memory would like to relive.
On the other hand the abdomen is the centre of our survival. The cries that come out from there force us to heed them. It’s necessity transforms itself into our own desire to satisfy it.
Camera and abdomen are both containers of which we only see the outside but try to understand their inside workings. The lens is the relationship with the outside world, which just like the umbilical cord, also at the centre, was ours in the womb. The first allows light to reach the film and trough the second we obtain the resources for our own development.
Each camera of “Containers of desires” has made just one photograph which has been once again put into the camera after being developed. The image of the abdomen that has been observed through the lens is kept locked up inside the camera and can only be seen by looking through the lens.
It is the return journey of light.
